The Obsession Began

I was getting tired and bored with reality, with a world lacking magic, vampires, shapeshifters…a world lacking heroically epic battles to eliminate the evil and let the good prevail. I was tired of the real world, the one where you turn on the news and hear nothing but bad, where you cannot just use magic to teleport yourself, where you cannot change into a werecat when you want to get away. I was just over it! Fantasy has always been my favorite type of book, Harry Potter, The world of Sookie Stackhouse, The Sword of Truth…all worlds where I have loved living, all amazing authors with amazing stories.I got a sudden urge to dive into a new world….

So, with this feeling, I decided to look through my bookshelves and see if there was anything I have yet to read. I found a few series from long ago I had never read; The Shannara Series and The Belgariad & Mallorean, then found one I needed to reread; The Tales of the Alvin Maker …and so the obsession began. I found these two websites, Urban Fantasy Land and Epic-Fantasy.com that began my adventure and provided me with wonderful amazing series to read and after those the wonderful and amazing Wikipedia helped solidify each choice.

I asked myself the following questions when reading about a series to see if it would make the list or not (and please note this list grows each time I decided to reasearch or recieve a recomendation):

  • What is the world like? Is it magical?
  • What kind of Supernatural beings/things are involved?
  • What kind of powers do the inhabitants of the world have?
  • How long is the series? Has it ended or is it still growing?

With the answers to these questions, I have compiled a list of 16 amazing Epic Fantasy authors and 18 wonderful Urban Fantasy authors. I have placed each series in its recommended reading order and found where the endless short stories are placed within each series. From there, with this Blog, I plan to have a post with each series detailing what its all about as well as including the list with the short stories, places to find good prices on the books, places where you can sample chapters on the Internet, the authors website, the answers to my ‘deciding factor’ questions and new or updates on what is to come.

Please enjoy your stay and feel free to comment!! Welcome to my new obsession!!!
